To many Washington Heights residents who affectionately call their enclave by numerous appellations such as 'Upper Chelsea', 'WaHi' and 'Hudson Heights', there is no better location in Manhattan to live. Washington Heights and the Inwood area is effectively a bridge between Harlem and the Bronx.

WaHi is home to an eclectic community of artists, professionals, a significant Latin community, and octogenarian German Jews. Ask any WaHi resident what the signature mark of this area is, and they will tell you that it is the sense of community one experiences in this area -- addressing the local hardware owner by his first name is expected here. Over the past 5 years Washington Heights has seen an aggressive blossoming in the number of chic restaurants and shops popping up nearly every day in this community. The area is also home to the beautiful Fort Tryon Park, Riverside Park (home of the little Red Lighthouse), and many other smaller parks that pepper the area. Although rents and sales prices in this area have sharply increased in the past five years, WaHi shows no sign of slowing down as southern Manhattaners still continue to move up north in droves.
